About the role
- Senior Software Engineer building Ruby on Rails and frontend solutions for DealMaker, an online capital-raising fintech platform. Leading projects, technical decisions, code quality, and developer mentoring.
Responsibilities
- Lead and deliver large software projects from technical conception through completion
- Raise the organization's technical excellence through community standards, best practices, and code reviews
- Contribute to technical review meetings and high-impact technical decisions
- Speak up about concerns and opportunities, provide constructive feedback, and participate in asynchronous work or pairing
- Drive impact through thin slices of code, stakeholder alignment, technical documentation, and decomposition of initiatives into technical tasks
- Mentor developers through demonstrations, guided exercises, questions, and comprehension checks
- Collaborate with stakeholders and communicate technical points clearly
- Support other technical leads and contribute to prioritization discussions
Requirements
- Understanding of software design patterns and demonstrated ability to lead and deliver large projects
- Understanding of Agile software development methodologies
- Experience with Ruby on Rails
- Experience with modern frontend frameworks such as Svelte, React, or Vue
- Experience with a variety of programming languages and technologies is a plus
- Excellent communication in English
- Familiarity with collaboration tools
- Good mentoring skills
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field, or 5+ years of industry experience, including 2+ years as a senior developer
- Legally authorized to work in Canada without sponsorship
- Willingness to work in a hybrid setting with 3 days in the office
- Production experience using Ruby on Rails and at least one modern frontend framework within the last 2 years
- Ability to diagnose and fix N+1 queries, implement pagination, and perform appropriate database indexing in Rails
- Ability to design and consume JSON APIs end-to-end, including client-side handling of 4xx/5xx errors
- Experience writing request/model tests and using feature flags/rollback for safe releases
- Comfort debugging browser issues using DevTools and the network tab, and mapping Rails validation errors to UI forms
