About the role

  • Corporate Underwriting Advisor shaping commercial insurance strategy, portfolio performance, and product innovation. Supporting profitable growth across Desjardins’ national commercial insurance portfolio.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the evolution of underwriting appetite, eligibility criteria, and risk selection frameworks
  • Analyze portfolio performance, market trends, and emerging risks to identify opportunities for profitable growth
  • Identify product and coverage gaps using loss data, client feedback, and competitive insights to expand risk appetite
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to actuarial and distribution operational partners on complex underwriting issues, high-impact risks, and portfolio initiatives
  • Review initiatives, queries, file exceptions, positionings, timelines, and recommendations with member/client impact in mind
  • Design, enhance, and maintain Commercial insurance products, coverages, and endorsements
  • Translate client needs into innovative insurance solutions
  • Ensure products remain relevant, sustainable, and aligned with evolving business objectives
  • Contribute to strategic initiatives transforming underwriting capabilities, processes, and tools
  • Support future-focused underwriting practices, data-driven decision-making, and emerging technologies

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, Insurance, or a related field
  • A minimum of six years of commercial Property & Casualty underwriting experience within the Ontario, Atlantic, and/or Western Canadian markets
  • Other combinations of qualifications and relevant experience may be considered
  • Experience drafting coverage wordings, interpreting coverage intent, determining eligibility, and developing underwriting guidelines
  • Advanced experience in product development, underwriting strategy, portfolio management, or business transformation
  • CIP designation completed or in current progress
  • Advanced proficiency of French and English, both oral and written
  • Advanced knowledge of commercial insurance coverages, underwriting principles, risk selection, and portfolio segmentation
