Lead Rental Technician maintaining and repairing Home Depot rental equipment across Ontario stores, shops, and customer job sites. Diagnosing mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and trailer systems.
Responsibilities
Serve as the subject matter expert in large equipment operation and repair
Maintain rental equipment readiness across assigned stores, company shops, and customer job sites
Diagnose, maintain, and repair gas and diesel engines, hydraulics, electrical systems, fuel systems, brake systems, equipment, and trailers
Troubleshoot equipment issues and order parts within 48 hours of tools being placed on the Down List
Maintain accurate fleet inventory and ensure GPS systems and three-point security are operational on towable equipment
Obtain repair parts and maintain timely, accurate parts inventory
Assist with equipment deployment, deliveries, auctions, and pre-delivery inspections
Maintain vehicle compliance, Electronic Logging Device (ELD), Hours of Service (HOS) logs, inspections, and documentation
Deploy new equipment to store locations and transfer equipment between locations
Provide customer service and technical support to rental customers and store Tool Rental Centre associates
Respond to customer service calls, provide status updates, coordinate repairs, and arrive on-site within 24 hours
Coordinate training and support for Store TRCs with the Regional Rental Manager
Use equipment reporting to prioritize service strategies, RSN tickets, repairs, inspections, preventive maintenance, and safety campaigns
Document work performed, labor, and parts in company technology platforms and D365
Communicate rental status updates and ensure work orders are completed
Follow Home Depot safety, driving, lifting, PPE, Hazmat, MEWP, and store inspection requirements
Check in with the Regional Rental Manager at the beginning and end of each day
Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
Highschool Diploma or Equivalent
2 years of relevant work experience
Valid Driver’s License for the province you reside in and good driving record
Must be 18 year or older
Must be legally permitted to work in Canada
Must pass a background check
Resides within 25 kms of target city or willing to commute to base location
Working knowledge of handheld technology (ex. smartphone, laptop, tablet, applications, etc.)
Must provide own standard tools used in the trade/craft
Ability to diagnose and complete advanced mechanical repairs, including engines, hydraulics, and electrical systems
Ability to read and understand technical repair and parts manuals for equipment, including mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and other components
Knowledge of and/or experience driving delivery trucks, towing tandem axle utility trailers and towable construction equipment, operating safely within high traffic or congested city zones and in small areas
Working understanding of safe load securement, tie downs, and transport
Working knowledge and understanding of Ministry of Transportation guidelines and Safety regulations
Ability to adapt to unforeseen circumstances, including weather, traffic, and others
Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, doing what is necessary to exceed customer expectations
Experience in equipment rental industry, auto/truck mechanic, oil and gas mechanical, light industrial equipment, mechanical/technical aptitude
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs., stand for prolonged periods, bend, kneel, crawl under equipment, climb equipment, reach, stretch, work at heights, and perform repetitive hand, wrist, and arm movements
Ability to work outdoors in extreme hot and cold temperatures and around dirt, grease, fumes, oils, chemicals, and loud noises

May require overnight travel less than 15% of the time
