About the role

  • Commercial Account Director supporting Canadian companies’ domestic and international growth through EDC financing, insurance, and advisory solutions. Managing strategic client portfolios and complex business development opportunities in Southwestern Ontario.

Responsibilities

  • Build relationships with medium-sized and large Canadian companies and identify opportunities to support growth in Canada and international markets
  • Research, qualify, and engage prospective clients across a variety of industries
  • Understand clients’ financing, risk management, and growth objectives and connect them with EDC solutions, expertise, and network
  • Manage and grow a client portfolio through account plans, opportunity identification, and high service levels
  • Lead financing, insurance, and advisory opportunities from initial discussions through successful implementation
  • Gather and share market intelligence to identify trends and opportunities and shape solutions for evolving client needs
  • Collaborate with EDC colleagues, financial institutions, and external partners to deliver comprehensive client solutions
  • Build and maintain long-term relationships within assigned territory and industry sectors
  • Contribute to regional and national business development initiatives supporting EDC strategic priorities and market coverage
  • Act as a trusted advisor to business leaders navigating challenges, pursuing growth, and expanding internationally
  • Deliver an exceptional client experience and contribute to Canadian exporters’ success and the broader economy

Requirements

  • Undergraduate Degree in Business Administration, Finance, Commerce, or other relevant discipline
  • Minimum of 10 years of business development experience and commercial credit lending experience in international business and/or financial services
  • Experience in Syndications, Bilateral and M&A transactions
  • Experience in financing and managing transactions up and down the capital stack
  • Knowledge of best practices in strategic sales and/or account management
  • Established network in Southwestern Ontario relevant to EDC’s mandate
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English
  • Valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle
  • Ability to work legally in Canada at the time of application, as a Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident preferred
  • Must meet requisite government security screening requirements
  • Bilingualism in English and French is an asset
  • Business development experience in commercial banking is an asset
  • Sales management experience in related industries is an asset
  • Knowledge of bank credit and lending practices is an asset
  • Knowledge of international business practices and international trade is an asset
  • MBA, CITP, or CBCA designation is an asset
  • Knowledge of private equity-backed company growth strategies and analysis is an asset
