About the role
- FamilySmart peer support worker supporting B.C. families caring for children and youth facing mental health or substance use challenges. Connecting caregivers with resources, services, and hope.
Responsibilities
- Provide peer support to families and caregivers whose children and youth are experiencing mental health and/or substance use difficulties
- Provide emotional support to families and caregivers
- Share information and resources
- Offer knowledge and education
- Help families and caregivers navigate services
- Build on parents’ and caregivers’ strengths and offer hope
- Meet with families and caregivers in person, by video chat, phone, and email
- Promote and present FamilySmart’s Family Peer Support services at community events
- Work with service providers in the community
Requirements
- Personal parenting experience as a parent or caregiver of a child or youth with mental health and/or substance use challenges
- Ability to build relationships and make connections easily
- Compassion and care for others
- Ability to work well with community service providers
- Comfortable promoting and presenting FamilySmart’s Family Peer Support services at events
- Strong verbal and written skills
- Ability to work from a home office and attend weekly in-person events and meetings across Maple Ridge, Pitt Meadows, and Mission
- Good working knowledge of Google Workspace, including Gmail, Calendar, and Docs
- Ability to pass a criminal records check with a vulnerable sector search
