Senior Finance Analyst supporting financial reporting, audits, budgeting, and compliance for Green Municipal Fund’s Canadian municipal sustainability programs. Hybrid role near Ottawa.
Responsibilities
Prepare and review monthly and quarterly financial reports for Program staff and External Funders
Analyze financial results, explain major budget discrepancies, and prepare results for senior management and external funders
Lead internal audit processes, write audit reports, report discrepancies and recommendations to the Finance Manager, and follow up on action items
Support the Finance Manager during external audits
Coordinate with Program Managers and liaise with funding agencies on financial aspects of assigned projects
Prepare and review grant contracts and disbursement requests for compliance with funder requirements
Prepare FCM due-to-from and inter-fund reconciliations
Coordinate budgeting and provide advice to senior managers on workplan budget items
Participate in annual budget and forecast preparation and ensure accuracy, completeness, and timely delivery
Work with Program teams on mid-term projections and revisions
Develop, deliver, and organize financial training for Program staff
Provide strategic financial management advice to Program and Finance leadership
Maintain documents for audit and funding contribution requirements
Monitor grants to ensure timely recipient payments
Review financial and accounting practices and recommend efficiency improvements
Support the team and Finance Manager with ad hoc tasks and initiatives
Requirements
Experience in accounting or finance typically acquired through a college or university degree and a minimum of 7 years of direct practical accounting experience
Minimum of 2 years in a leadership capacity
Strong knowledge of budget preparation and monitoring, fund accounting, and financial statement and report preparation and analysis
Experience with month-end and year-end analysis, lead sheets, and supporting documentation
Excellent computer skills with Microsoft Office Word, advanced Microsoft Excel functions, Outlook, Power BI, SharePoint, Workday, Great Plains, MS Management Reporter, and CRM databases
Strong knowledge and understanding of GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles)
Solid analytical and problem-solving skills
Ability to organize and coordinate service-oriented activities
Ability to work at a detailed level while understanding the larger picture
Strong oral and written communication skills
Ability to work with teams and people of different cultures and backgrounds
Ability to live within 80 km of downtown Ottawa
Must be authorized to work in Canada
Fluency in French and English, written and spoken, is considered a strong asset
