About the role
- Senior Backend Engineer scaling Feathery’s AI operating and decisioning platform for financial services. Building distributed document-processing and workflow systems with AWS, APIs, and asynchronous pipelines.
Responsibilities
- Design, build, and scale backend services powering document processing and workflow automation
- Develop asynchronous pipelines and distributed systems for large data volumes
- Build and maintain AWS infrastructure and queueing systems such as SQS
- Ensure high availability, fault tolerance, and observability
- Optimize systems for performance, scalability, and cost-efficiency
- Process and transform structured and unstructured data
- Integrate OCR and AI model services
- Improve document and data processing pipeline reliability and throughput
- Contribute to product APIs and internal services
- Define requirements and ship features with product teams
- Collaborate with frontend and customer-facing teams on new use cases
- Translate customer needs into scalable backend solutions
- Contribute to product planning and technical scoping
- Own key backend systems and architecture decisions
- Mentor engineers and contribute to engineering best practices
- Improve code quality, testing, and deployment processes
- Stay current with backend and infrastructure technologies
Requirements
- 4–7+ years of experience building and scaling backend systems
- Strong proficiency in Node.js, Django, or similar backend frameworks
- Experience designing distributed systems and asynchronous processing pipelines
- Solid experience with AWS and cloud infrastructure
- Strong understanding of system performance, reliability, and observability
- Experience building production-grade APIs and services
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced, high-growth startup environment
- Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate across teams
