About the role
- Software Developer optimizing embedded systems performance for Ford’s electric vehicle platforms. Improving infotainment, telematics, diagnostics, memory, power, and connected-car performance.
Responsibilities
- Work on next-generation automotive infotainment platforms, telematics, and connected-car innovations
- Measure system behavior, isolate sub-optimal interactions, analyze bottlenecks from Kernel and Drivers through Application and UI, and implement system-level performance fixes
- Design and build on-device and server-side diagnostic tools and automated testing
- Characterize new feature performance against KPI budgets including boot time, latency, and throughput
- Participate in agile Scrum development sprints
- Monitor and optimize memory footprint, resolving leaks, fragmentation, and resource contention
- Profile and optimize power consumption, thermal behavior, and sleep/wake cycles
- Build telemetry pipelines and remote logging to analyze test-fleet performance and detect regressions
- Collaborate with hardware vendors and silicon partners to use hardware accelerators and optimize CPU utilization and throughput
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical/Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field of study
- 3-5 years' professional experience in embedded C/C++ development
- 3+ years' experience in Python programming
- Hands-on experience with Linux and/or Android internals
- Proven experience with multi-threaded embedded systems design and Real-Time OS (RTOS) concepts
- Must provide proof of degree completion for the highest level of education attained
- Education Credential Assessment report showing Canadian equivalency required for degrees obtained outside Canada
- Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
- Ford does not sponsor work permit applications
- Preferred experience with File Systems, Memory Management, CPU Scheduling, or Kernel Configuration optimization
- Preferred expertise with strace, ftrace, LTTng, Perfetto, or QNX Momentics
- Preferred experience with CAN, Automotive Ethernet, Jenkins, Git, and data visualization techniques
