About the role

  • Lead protection and control engineering for GE Vernova’s grid automation projects. Designing, simulating, testing, and commissioning power-system solutions for utility and industrial customers.

Responsibilities

  • Design and deliver complex protection solutions for generation, transmission, and distribution systems
  • Participate in designing and developing microgrid solutions, including power flow optimization and dispatching algorithms
  • Perform engineering studies and analyses, including short circuit, load flow, ground grid design, lightning protection, insulation coordination, arc-flash, and protective device coordination studies
  • Create relay setting files and program protection and control elements, control logic, and communications settings
  • Test customized protection and control solutions in-house and at customer installations
  • Model and conduct power system simulations using RTDS or equivalent
  • Provide factory acceptance test plans and testing services
  • Plan site acceptance tests and provide field support through commissioning
  • Assist software tool development to automate engineering processes
  • Participate in project meetings with project managers and customers on technical discussions

Requirements

  • B.S. or higher degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering specialized in power system
  • 7+ years of experience in design, study, and analysis of electric power systems
  • Knowledge of power system steady and transient analysis, fault study, and protection theory
  • Familiarity with symmetrical components
  • Working experience with Mathcad, MATLAB, ASPEN, CAPE, SKM, CDEGS, WinIGS, or Etap
  • Working knowledge of IEC 61850, DNP, and Modbus substation communication protocols
  • Knowledge or field experience with system commissioning and testing, including Doble / Omicron test equipment or similar
  • Technical skills to execute projects, identify opportunities, and write SOW proposals
  • Proficiency in technical report writing, MS Word, and Excel
  • Strong communication skills, including technical writing and presentations
  • Professional engineering accreditation is an asset but not essential
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States
  • Successful completion of a drug screen, as applicable
