About the role

  • Heavy Equipment Operator operating loaders, excavators, and rock trucks for GFL’s outdoor operations in Ontario. Maintaining equipment, loading soil, and supporting safe site activities.

Responsibilities

  • Safely operate and/or have the ability to operate excavator, front loader, and rock truck
  • Operate necessary equipment to load soil into trailers
  • Perform daily inspection and maintenance checks of equipment
  • Grease/lubricate equipment and check and add fluids daily
  • Steer, guide, and/or drive assigned equipment using steering wheels, shifters, levers, buttons, and pedals
  • Substitute for another operator when absent or as needed
  • Clean trash from heavy equipment tracks and gear mechanisms
  • Use a two-way radio to communicate with field and office co-workers about work activities, requirements, and priorities
  • Comply with applicable laws, regulations, ordinances, orders, and company policies and procedures
  • Maintain the appearance of grounds and facility
  • Attend safety and branch meetings
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Experience operating heavy equipment, specifically wheel loader and excavator
  • Reliability to work daily, year round 50+ hours per week
  • Ability to follow instructions and work under little supervision
  • Ability to apply commonsense understanding to problems involving several concrete variables in a standardized setting
  • Ability to perform the four basic functions of math and read and understand equipment gauges
  • Ability to read, speak, understand and write the English language
  • Ability to frequently lift/push/pull up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift/push/pull up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to stand, sit, walk, use hands and fingers, reach, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, talk, hear, climb, balance, taste, and smell
  • Close, distance, color, peripheral and depth perception, and ability to adjust focus
  • Ability to work outdoors 100% of the time and in varied weather conditions
  • Valid work authorization in the country where the job is located; visa sponsorship is not provided
