About the role

  • Civil Design Technician producing 3D models and drawings for utilities, roads, rail and transit projects. Supporting GHD’s global engineering, architecture and construction consultancy.

Responsibilities

  • Produce conceptual and detailed designs and related drawings for civil design projects
  • Model linear utilities, site grading, site servicing, road and rail corridors, and transit stations
  • Oversee or produce design work in an integrated 3D environment while meeting quality standards
  • Apply technical knowledge and coordination skills to solve problems on complex multidisciplinary projects
  • Act as technical lead for a defined scope of work
  • Coordinate with GHD business groups, subconsultants and external agencies
  • Contribute to proposal development
  • Mentor junior team members and potentially supervise their performance and career development
  • Assist with specifications, cost estimates, technical reports and tender documents
  • Coordinate design teams to deliver quality work within schedule and budget

Requirements

  • Experience creating conceptual and detailed design models and related drawings for civil design projects
  • Experience with project coordination or project management tasks, including project planning, scheduling, financial controls, monthly reporting, deliverable tracking and team coordination
  • Extensive experience using corridor and pipe network modules in Civil 3D
  • Extensive experience with 3D model development, design completion, general arrangement drawing production, redlining, annotating and drafting
  • Experience with AutoTURN or Autodesk Vehicle Tracking
  • Strong experience with geometric design, including alignments, profiles, corridor modeling and cross-section development
  • Knowledge of TAC Geometric Guidelines, BC Supplement to TAC, MMCD, and BC Manual of Standard Traffic Signs and Pavement Markings
  • Post-secondary education in Civil Engineering
  • Professional Engineer/Technologist registered or eligible for registration in Alberta or British Columbia
  • 5–10 years of civil design and modelling experience
  • Outstanding written and oral interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks with attention to detail in a demanding consulting environment
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and delegate work to meet deadlines
  • Experience with Construction Administration & Inspection considered an asset
  • Interest or experience with BIM platforms, design programming, visualizations and automation considered an asset
