About the role
- Senior HSE professional supporting GHD’s engineering and environmental services across Canada Central. Leading audits, incident investigations, safety programs, training, and regulatory compliance.
Responsibilities
- Report to and assist the Canada Central Regional HSE Manager in delivering GHD’s HSE Management System and initiatives
- Provide organization-wide support and guidance on legislative compliance and HSE procedures
- Coordinate annual internal and external COR audits in Ontario
- Lead HSE incident and near-miss investigations, root-cause analysis, corrective actions, reporting, and response preparation
- Support project teams with health, safety, and environment plans and job safety environmental analyses
- Manage work-related injury claims and return-to-work plans
- Support, coordinate, and deliver regional HSE training and develop training content
- Develop, implement, and evaluate HSE prevention programs, procedures, and occupational health and safety monitoring tools
- Collaborate with employees and managers on risk identification, elimination, and preventative actions
- Promote positive HSE culture and accountability across the organization
- Facilitate Joint Health and Safety Committees and Health and Safety Representative requirements
- Inspect offices, laboratories, and active construction sites; recommend mitigation strategies and implement and verify corrective measures
- Facilitate crisis and emergency management programs
- Coordinate HSE performance measurements, identify improvement areas, and prepare reports and communications
- Provide guidance on occupational health monitoring programs
- Support personal protective equipment inspection programs and inventories
- Monitor changes to applicable safety legislation and regulatory requirements
- Support special projects and perform other related duties
Requirements
- Degree or Diploma in Health and Safety or another job-related field
- Minimum 8–10 years of health and safety experience, preferably in construction, environmental services, materials testing, hazardous remediation, and/or engineering consulting
- CRSP designation or equivalent, possessed or currently in pursuit, is an asset
- National Construction Safety Officer (NCSO) certification and field experience, possessed or currently in pursuit, are assets
- Experience as an IHSA COR internal auditor or ISO 18001/45001 auditor is an asset
- Knowledge and work experience with Canadian/provincial occupational health and safety laws, regulations, and standards
- Knowledge and experience with HSE Management Systems and behavior-based safety programs
- Experience developing and implementing HSE programs
- Experience conducting HSE risk analyses and developing health and safety plans or equivalent
- Experience conducting incident investigations using root-cause-analysis methods or equivalent
- Experience managing workers’ compensation injury reporting, claims management, and return-to-work processes
- Strong work ethic; motivated, energetic, goal-oriented, and positive outlook
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational, planning, time-management, and prioritization skills
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
- Strong professionalism and diplomacy
- Teamwork and leadership skills to build relationships with business partners and stakeholders
- Advanced written and oral English communication skills
- Digital literacy and proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams), Adobe, and similar systems
- Current valid driver’s licence with a clean driving record
- Availability for regional travel of approximately 5% of the working year
- Ability to complete additional training courses as necessary
