About the role

Responsibilities

  • Supervise a team of engineers
  • Actively participate in business development
  • Integrate innovation and new technologies into process improvements and quality management
  • Design repair plans and specifications for concrete, laboratory and field test rigs, and material formulations
  • Perform inspection and condition assessment of reinforced concrete and/or steel structures and recommend repair methods
  • Conduct technical and forensic investigations and prepare technical reports and opinions
  • Inspect works and specify necessary corrective actions
  • Monitor repair works on reinforced concrete structures
  • Supervise and advise quality control engineers in managing non-conformities
  • Analyze construction materials and assess their performance and durability
  • Manage technical and administrative aspects of projects, including service proposals, staff allocation, billing and administrative follow-up
  • Supervise material assessment mandates and engineers
  • Manage relationships with contract service providers
  • Develop capabilities through training, coaching and conference participation
  • Coordinate site work with the client, subcontractors and laboratory testing
  • Identify process gaps and provide technical expertise in materials innovation and technologies
  • Provide technical mentorship to engineers and develop specialized tests and tools
  • Manage client relationships, identify new business opportunities and contribute to technical and commercial proposals

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering, materials engineering, geological engineering or related field
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in materials engineering
  • Strong expertise in the analysis and implementation of materials in infrastructure and construction projects
  • In-depth expertise in construction materials, emerging technologies and materials testing
  • Good knowledge of industry standards and regulations, including ISO, ASTM and CSA
  • Knowledge of durability pathologies of concrete and/or steel and associated testing
  • Member in good standing of the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec
  • Fluent in French and English, both spoken and written
  • Hold an ASP Construction card
  • Valid driver's license and vehicle
  • Ability to work under pressure, learn quickly and adapt to unforeseen circumstances
  • Organized, autonomous, resourceful, team-oriented and analytical
  • Master's or PhD in civil engineering with a specialization in materials, research assistant experience, NACE certification, durability modeling, NDT techniques and software such as COMSOL, Abaqus, Python and advanced Excel considered assets
