Responsibilities
Design and develop software in GM’s Linux-based vehicle connectivity system
Develop and maintain C, C++, and Rust-based tools and prototypes supporting Digital Vehicle Experience software development and validation workflows
Handle and analyze data to connect software behavior with real-world system or user outcomes
Contribute to application logic, automation, and internal software that improves developer efficiency, prototyping speed, and user-facing feature exploration
Support software testing and debugging by reproducing issues, validating expected behavior, and documenting results
Collaborate with hardware teams on vehicle power and reliability requirements
Work with application and cloud teams to ensure end-to-end reliability and performance
Translate mechatronics- or user-experience-oriented ideas into prototypes and implementation plans
Participate in design reviews, technical discussions, and project planning
Communicate progress and open issues effectively with teammates
Requirements
Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Software Engineering, Applied Science and Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent
Must be enrolled in a co-op program and meet the program’s eligibility requirements
Eligible to work full-time, 40 hours per week, for an 8- or 12-month consecutive-semester term
Legally entitled to work in Canada
Must not require sponsorship to work in Canada now or in the future
Demonstrated interest in software-oriented engineering work, including coursework
Strong interest in programming at the intersection of software, physical systems, and user experience
Experience with C, C++, or Rust; exposure to JavaScript or Python is a plus
Experience coordinating group work and managing timelines and deliverables
Experience gathering stakeholder feedback and iterating solutions based on user needs
Strong collaboration, public speaking, adaptability, and teamwork skills
Comfort learning new tools and adapting across technical problem spaces
Exposure to Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, or cellular connectivity protocols is a plus
Exposure to Linux or Zephyr operating systems is a plus
Proven ability to collaborate and communicate effectively on technical projects; leadership experience highly desired
