About the role

  • Project Manager delivering design and construction projects for the City of Hamilton’s municipal facilities. Managing consultants, contractors, budgets, schedules, compliance, and community coordination.

Responsibilities

  • Manage all aspects of project delivery from feasibility through design, construction, and closeout
  • Coordinate, design, review drawings, plan, organize, and control design and construction activities for new and renovated facilities
  • Research and prepare terms of reference and coordinate RFP, RFQ, and tender processes
  • Review and evaluate proposals, participate in selection interviews, recommend consultant selections, and administer contracts
  • Coordinate with architects, consulting engineers, consultants, client contacts, and operations and maintenance staff
  • Prepare cost and project estimates based on approved scope of work
  • Conduct site visits, analyze site conditions, and prepare field reports
  • Provide contract administration on assigned projects
  • Maintain computerized project inventories and provide technical advice to senior management
  • Review designs, plans, specifications, and tender documents for legislative and code compliance
  • Serve as on-site construction supervisor and organize construction site meetings
  • Supervise contractor field operations, inspections, testing, sampling, and construction reporting
  • Ensure health and safety compliance on construction sites
  • Recommend progress payments, substantial completion, and total completion
  • Maintain project budgets and schedules using project management software
  • Audit project activity reports and field books
  • Review tender drawings, recommend awards, and draft Committee items
  • Attend community meetings and engage client groups, residents, and special interest groups
  • Respond to inquiries from the public, City departments, agencies, consultants, contractors, and vendors
  • Provide technical and design advisory services and presentations to senior staff, community groups, and Council
  • Coordinate and guide volunteer citizen activities
  • Prepare project status reports, presentations, detailed designs, presentation drawings, tender documents, and specifications
  • Liaise with government agencies and develop design and technical standards

Requirements

  • Diploma or degree in Architecture or Engineering along with relevant work experience
  • Construction project management experience
  • Project management experience in design and construction of municipal buildings and/or institutional facilities
  • Experience as the owner representative Project Manager (or equivalent) on Facilities design and capital construction projects
  • Knowledge of Health and Safety legislation and procedures related to Occupational Health and Safety
  • Knowledge of building codes, regulations and construction procedures
  • Background in field techniques, construction document practices, and site inspection experience
  • Well-developed interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
  • Experience working with multiple stakeholders and delivering customer service
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Class “G” Driver’s Licence and provision of a vehicle for use on the job
  • Knowledge, training and experience in Computer Aided Design software, MS Project, and asset management software would be an asset
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) designation would be an asset
  • Certified Facility Manager (CFM) designation would be an asset
  • Successful completion of Health and Safety Courses would be an asset
  • Formal design experience and experience creating project construction schedules would be an asset
  • Knowledge of Facilities Management and 11 core competencies would be an asset
