About the role
- Senior software engineer building internal developer tooling and infrastructure for Instacart’s online grocery marketplace. Improving engineering productivity, reliability, and delivery velocity at scale.
Responsibilities
- Design, build, and maintain internal developer tooling, platforms, and infrastructure
- Improve the productivity, reliability, and experience of engineering teams across Instacart
- Own complex technical initiatives end-to-end, from scoping and architecture through implementation, rollout, and iteration
- Identify developer experience friction points through data, feedback, and collaboration with engineering teams
- Drive solutions that reduce toil and improve engineering velocity at scale
- Contribute to technical direction through design reviews, code reviews, and architectural discussions
- Adapt quickly and make sound technical decisions in a fast-moving, ambiguous environment
Requirements
- 8+ years of professional software engineering experience
- Proficiency in one or more backend languages commonly used in platform or infrastructure contexts, such as Go, Ruby, Python, Java, or similar
- Experience building or contributing to developer tooling, internal platforms, CI/CD systems, or developer productivity infrastructure
- Ability to lead technical projects independently, including scoping, designing, and delivering solutions with cross-functional impact
- Strong communication skills and ability to articulate technical trade-offs clearly
- Preferred: experience on Developer Experience, Platform Engineering, or Infrastructure teams
- Preferred: familiarity with observability tooling, build systems, or developer environment management, such as Bazel, Docker, or Kubernetes
- Preferred: experience in a high-growth technology company
- Preferred: track record of influencing engineering culture or best practices
