About the role
- Developer Advocate promoting VAST Data’s API-first data platforms through technical content, workshops, and AI workflow demonstrations. Building developer communities and customer adoption across Canada.
Responsibilities
- Represent VAST Data at industry conferences, meetups, and events as a speaker
- Design and deliver technical workshops
- Build relationships with developer communities, AI practitioners, and data engineers
- Nurture the Cosmos community of customers and partners
- Develop technical content including tutorials, blog posts, videos, and documentation
- Create workshop materials for in-person and virtual delivery
- Build applications, reference architectures, and proof-of-concepts
- Design and implement hands-on labs for data pipelines and AI workflows
- Demonstrate best practices for data platform implementations
- Build and showcase integrations with popular frameworks
- Serve as a technical advisor to sales engineers and customers
- Collaborate with product teams to translate customer feedback into product improvements and adoption
- Develop proof-of-concept AI agents and data pipelines using VAST Data
- Create educational content explaining how VAST Data enhances AI development workflows
- Collaborate with partners to showcase pipelines used by their AI agents
- Stay current on emerging AI technologies and frameworks to identify integration opportunities
- Travel approximately 20% for conferences, customer visits, and workshops
Requirements
- Background in software development, developer relations, advocacy, or technical evangelism
- Proven experience presenting technical content through public speaking
- Strong technical writing skills with a portfolio of blog posts, documentation, or technical content
- Experience creating and delivering technical workshops or training programs
- Ability to translate complex technical concepts into clear, compelling narratives
- Experience with modern AI frameworks and data processing technologies
- Familiarity with distributed computing concepts and technologies
- Software development experience in data engineering languages and tools, including Python, SQL, and vector databases
- Understanding of modern advanced storage and compute architectures, particularly open-source, and their impact on data pipeline performance
- Knowledge of containerization, orchestration, and cloud-native technologies
- Understanding of modern database technologies
- Experience with VAST Data products or similar data platform technologies
- Experience building and deploying data pipelines in production environments
- Active social media presence in relevant technical communities
- Previous experience working with enterprise customers in the data infrastructure space
- Comfortable speaking in front of audiences with an engaging presentation style
- Self-motivated with the ability to work independently while collaborating across teams
- Creative problem-solver who can develop innovative demos and content
- Passionate about technology education and knowledge sharing
- Empathetic communicator who can understand and address customer pain points
- Adaptable to changing priorities and emerging technologies
