About the role
- Backend engineer building batch development and testing tools for Affirm’s buy-now-pay-later platform. Improving workflow efficiency, testing reliability, and critical workload operations.
Responsibilities
- Break down larger projects into individual tasks and deliver them in multiple phases
- Collaborate with product management, design and analytics on ideation and technical decisions
- Articulate technical constraints and consider risks and trade-offs
- Create and monitor metrics for team artifacts
- Escalate issues and support operational availability, keep-the-lights-on and on-call efforts
- Participate in interview and growth and development activities
- Build tools and systems that make batch development and testing faster and more reliable
- Partner with product and infrastructure engineers to streamline workflows and improve reliability of critical batch workloads
Requirements
- 1.5+ years of experience as a software engineer
- Experience designing, developing and launching backend systems
- Proficiency in Python or Kotlin
- Familiarity with distributed systems, AWS, MySQL and Kubernetes
- Ability to design solutions interacting with multiple software components
- Ability to write clear, well-tested and extensible code
- Comfortable navigating large code bases and debugging others' code
- Experience providing code review feedback
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Equivalent practical experience or a Bachelor’s degree in a related field
