About the role

  • Director leading Intact’s national forensic engineering team for complex property and casualty insurance claims. Driving governance, transformation, quality, budgets and dispersed-team performance across Canada.

Responsibilities

  • Provide national leadership to the Forensic Engineering team within a property and casualty insurance environment
  • Lead a national team and mobilize managers and technical experts across Canada
  • Define the national vision, strategy and priorities for the Engineering team
  • Lead, engage, coach and develop managers to ensure consistently high performance
  • Foster a high-performing, inclusive management team focused on collaboration and continuous improvement
  • Establish team structure, governance model and collaboration practices
  • Harmonize processes, practices, quality standards and performance indicators while considering regional realities
  • Govern complex technical, operational and reputational matters, including expertise, risk management and escalation processes
  • Ensure quality, consistency and rigour of technical decisions across regions
  • Advise senior claims leadership on technical, operational, organizational and strategic matters
  • Lead or support national transformation, continuous improvement and technology initiatives
  • Oversee complex projects, including planning, prioritization, risk, resources, costs and timelines
  • Develop and manage the national budget, capacity, resource and development plans
  • Monitor quality, productivity, turnaround times, customer experience and operational effectiveness
  • Collaborate with Claims teams and partners across Canada
  • Maintain relationships with suppliers, external experts, strategic partners and professional organizations
  • Ensure compliance with legal, regulatory, professional and ethical requirements
  • Promote knowledge sharing, innovation, succession planning and skills development
  • Provide leadership on complex matters requiring judgment, coordination and national leadership
  • Foster accountability, collaboration, excellence and continuous improvement

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Applied Sciences, Technical Management or another relevant discipline; equivalent combination of education and relevant experience may be considered
  • Minimum 10 years of relevant experience in engineering, forensic engineering, technical expertise, claims or related field
  • Demonstrated experience managing technical professionals, experts or specialized teams in a complex or highly technical environment
  • Minimum 3 years of experience managing managers or other leaders
  • Forensic Engineering Managers with strong technical-team leadership track record and demonstrated ability and potential to lead a management team are encouraged to apply
  • Experience leading geographically dispersed teams or operating in a multi-site environment is an asset
  • Experience in property and casualty insurance, claims or forensic engineering is an asset
  • Membership in a Canadian provincial engineering association or eligibility for professional licensure is an asset
  • Strong understanding of technical governance, risk management, quality standards and professional practices
  • Excellent strategic-thinking skills and ability to translate a national vision into concrete, measurable action plans
  • Strong influencing, mobilization and collaboration skills
  • Experience managing complex projects, organizational transformation and change management initiatives
  • Experience in budget management, resource planning and performance monitoring
  • Sound judgment and ability to make informed decisions in complex, changing environments
  • Ability to balance strategic, people-related, operational, financial, technical and regulatory considerations
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to build trusted relationships
  • For candidates based in Quebec, bilingualism in French and English is required
  • For candidates based in other provinces, bilingualism is considered an asset
  • Willingness and ability to travel regularly to various regions across Canada
  • Must be eligible to work in Canada from the anticipated start date and throughout employment; Intact does not provide immigration sponsorship
