About the role
- Senior Electrical Designer leading electrical architecture, safety, certification, and validation for Invinity’s vanadium flow battery systems. Supporting clean-energy storage products from design through manufacturing and deployment.
Responsibilities
- Lead electrical system design of a next generation flow battery, collaborating with electrochemical systems, mechanical components, power electronics, and control systems teams
- Lead product certification and regulatory compliance throughout the product development lifecycle
- Conceive, design, and develop electrical system architecture for flow battery products
- Develop and maintain design documentation for electrical system components and wiring harnesses
- Perform and oversee fault current, overprotection coordination, and arc flash safety calculations
- Develop and participate in DFMEA, hazard analysis, risk assessments, and mitigation
- Lead development and validation against product safety, EMC, environmental, electrical installation, and regional grid-connection standards
- Define, plan, and oversee design verification and compliance testing
- Specify, source, and qualify electrical system components
- Support manufacturing and supply chain activities, including supplier identification, selection, and QA programs
- Provide electrical systems expertise to installation and operations teams
- Mentor less experienced team members
- Travel to customer sites, suppliers, or Invinity offices domestically or overseas, up to 10%
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, or similar
- 5+ years of relevant experience, with demonstrated technical leadership in the development and delivery of complex electrical systems
- Experience working with certification bodies, NRTLs, test laboratories, and regulatory agencies
- Able to read, understand, and develop electrical schematics
- Familiarity with insulation coordination, SCCR determination, arc flash analysis, overcurrent protection coordination, and electrical hazard mitigation
- Skilled in testing and troubleshooting using multi-meters, oscilloscopes, programmable power supplies, and load banks
- Well-honed problem-solving skills, including structured tools such as 8D
- History of documenting and communicating procedures, specifications, and test results for internal and external audiences
- Experience following formal product development and configuration management processes
- P.Eng. (or equivalent) designation is strongly desired
- 5+ years of experience working with energy storage, PV systems, or similarly integrated power electronics systems
- Expertise in North American and European electrical installation codes and electrical product safety standards, including CEC, NFPA, NEC, UL, CSA, and IEC
