About the role

  • Construction Superintendent leading mechanical installation and commissioning for IREN’s renewable-energy AI data centers. Managing cooling infrastructure, contractors, safety, schedules, and system reliability.

Responsibilities

  • Own all mechanical construction activities on a data center project featuring high-performance computing, high-density liquid cooling, and redundant mechanical infrastructure
  • Manage planning, execution, and delivery of chilled water plants, liquid cooling loops, CDUs, cooling towers, pumps, hydronic piping, and HVAC systems
  • Review and interpret mechanical design documents, P&IDs, piping isometrics, equipment schedules, specifications, and submittals
  • Lead pipefitting, plumbing, HVAC, insulation, and millwright trades on site
  • Coordinate with electrical, civil, and IT/Network teams to integrate mechanical systems with power distribution and data center operations
  • Supervise subcontractors, vendors, and suppliers
  • Oversee pressure testing, flushing, chemical treatment, start-up, commissioning, and structured turnover
  • Ensure compliance with CSA, ASME, NFPA, local codes, safety standards, and quality standards
  • Track progress, manage schedules, and control budget against project milestones
  • Identify and mitigate mechanical infrastructure, redundancy, and reliability risks
  • Provide progress, challenge, and solution updates to project leadership, clients, and stakeholders

Requirements

  • 7+ years of experience in mechanical construction management on heavy industrial or mission-critical projects
  • Proven track record managing large-scale mechanical scopes from installation through commissioning, with direct site authority over multi-trade crews
  • Strong understanding of chilled water systems, liquid cooling technologies, pumps, cooling towers, hydronic piping, HVAC, and mechanical redundancy concepts
  • Hands-on commissioning experience: pressure testing, flushing, system walkdowns, punch, RFSU, and structured turnover
  • Knowledge of CSA, ASME, NFPA, and BC Building Code
  • Red Seal trade certification (Steamfitter/Pipefitter, Plumber, Millwright, or Refrigeration Mechanic), engineering degree, or equivalent experience
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills, with ability to manage multiple contractors and align them to project goals
  • Ability to work on-site in Mackenzie, BC on a rotational schedule; camp/remote-site experience an asset
  • Prior data center construction and commissioning or comparable MEP-dense environment experience preferred
  • Experience with structured completions platforms such as Smart Completions and turnover of tagged systems preferred
  • PMP certification or Gold Seal designation an asset
