About the role
- Engineering Director modernizing Juniper Square’s private-markets operations platform. Leading monolith modularization, AI-native development, application security, and engineering organization growth.
Responsibilities
- Lead the vision and execution for foundational systems powering the engineering organization
- Own the multi-year strategy to decouple the legacy Python/Jinja monolith into a modular FastAPI architecture using Domain-Driven Design and zero-downtime database migrations
- Drive rollout and adoption of AI-assisted coding tools and AI-augmented workflows across engineering
- Measure and improve developer productivity
- Guide development of SDKs, data pipelines, and internal tools enabling LLM integration and AI-powered features
- Establish a shift-left Application Security culture with secure coding practices, automated vulnerability scanning, and threat modeling
- Oversee Identity, AuthN/AuthZ, OAuth2, RBAC, Audit Logs, and high-throughput API and MCP Gateways
- Negotiate refactoring timelines with Product leaders and collaborate with Engineering and DevOps teams
- Recruit, mentor, and grow engineering managers and staff/principal engineers
- Build secure, high-velocity paved paths while reducing technical debt and security risks
Requirements
- 15+ years of software engineering experience
- At least 5+ years in engineering leadership, including explicitly managing managers and leading multiple teams
- Proven experience architecting systems that support AI features, including LLMs, RAG, and tool calling
- Track record of driving AI-assisted development tools and AI SDLC adoption across engineering teams
- Executive track record guiding large monolith-to-modular migrations and decoupling shared database schemas in high-traffic, business-critical environments
- Deep understanding of Application Security principles
- Experience with Identity/Access Management, including OAuth 2.0 and OIDC
- Knowledge of modern API traffic management
- Strong technical fluency in Python and FastAPI ecosystems
- Ability to guide Staff-level engineers through architectural decisions involving modern APIs and legacy applications
- Exceptional executive communication skills
