About the role

  • Senior claims specialist analyzing, negotiating, and settling auto and general liability claims. Supporting clients, brokers, litigation, and Independent Adjusters for Canadian TPA Helmsman.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze, investigate, evaluate, negotiate, and settle automobile and general liability claims
  • Determine coverage and claim disposition
  • Establish and regularly review indemnity and expense reserves
  • Recommend reserve levels for claims outside authority limits
  • Identify and communicate claim trends and account or policy issues to management, underwriting, and risk services
  • Prepare comprehensive reports as required
  • Proactively manage case resolution
  • Participate in market meetings, mediations, arbitrations, and settlement negotiations within authority
  • Manage litigation through counsel retention, budgets, bill review, and payment
  • Support claims marketing by meeting with brokers, risk managers, and reinsurers
  • Prepare for and facilitate client claim reviews
  • Oversee claims managed by Independent Adjusters to maintain Helmsman quality standards
  • Attend client and broker meetings and provide support for client management activities
  • Travel approximately 10–15%

Requirements

  • Bachelor's and/or advanced degree/diploma; experience may be substituted for education
  • 3–5+ years of related claims experience, including automobile and/or general liability claims
  • Highly advanced knowledge of claims handling concepts, practices, and techniques, including coverage issues and product line knowledge
  • Superior verbal and written communication skills
  • Intermediate analytical, decision-making, and negotiation skills
  • Proficiency in Punjabi is considered an asset
  • Experience with cargo and/or commercial transportation claims is a strong asset
  • Valid Ontario Adjuster's License is considered a strong asset
  • Completed CIP designation or active pursuit of CIP preferred
  • Litigation experience is a strong asset
  • Functional knowledge of law and insurance is an asset
  • Approximately 10–15% travel required
