About the role
- Cloud Engineer designing and operating secure AKS platforms for Manulife, an international financial-services provider. Automating infrastructure and improving developer experiences across its Canadian segment.
Responsibilities
- Design the AKS cluster model for the Canadian segment
- Implement infrastructure improvements with zero disruption to business operations
- Build an integrated end-to-end application development experience by combining team-owned AKS clusters with partner capabilities
- Integrate CI/CD pipelines, monitoring, logging, risk controls, and security services
- Automate cluster maintenance, operational workflows, and routine processes using Infrastructure-as-Code and AI-assisted tooling
- Identify opportunities to reduce manual effort, improve reliability, and enhance deployment efficiency
- Ensure compliance with enterprise risk and security standards across cluster design, operations, and governance
- Monitor and maintain AKS cluster health, performance, scalability, and security
- Partner with application development teams to meet business and technical needs
- Collaborate with capability-owner teams to align standards, integrate services, and deliver a cohesive platform experience
- Maintain relationships with business partners and shared technology teams to align governance, roadmaps, and service delivery
Requirements
- Experience in cloud computing; Azure strongly preferred
- Expertise in automation and Infrastructure-as-Code, including Terraform, Bicep, or ARM
- Experience using AI-assisted engineering tools such as GitHub Copilot or Azure OpenAI
- Experience operating or supporting shared platform services, such as Kubernetes clusters, CI/CD systems, observability platforms, or security/risk tooling
- Strong understanding of networking and security concepts
- Experience with Identity and Access Management, including Azure AD, RBAC, and workload identity
- Proficiency with cloud networking infrastructure and distributed system patterns
- Hands-on experience with API gateways and cloud-based architectures
- Strong system administration background
- Scripting/programming proficiency in PowerShell, Bash, Python, or similar
- Experience with containers and Kubernetes; AKS experience is an asset
