About the role

  • Cloud Engineer designing and operating secure AKS platforms for Manulife, an international financial-services provider. Automating infrastructure and improving developer experiences across its Canadian segment.

Responsibilities

  • Design the AKS cluster model for the Canadian segment
  • Implement infrastructure improvements with zero disruption to business operations
  • Build an integrated end-to-end application development experience by combining team-owned AKS clusters with partner capabilities
  • Integrate CI/CD pipelines, monitoring, logging, risk controls, and security services
  • Automate cluster maintenance, operational workflows, and routine processes using Infrastructure-as-Code and AI-assisted tooling
  • Identify opportunities to reduce manual effort, improve reliability, and enhance deployment efficiency
  • Ensure compliance with enterprise risk and security standards across cluster design, operations, and governance
  • Monitor and maintain AKS cluster health, performance, scalability, and security
  • Partner with application development teams to meet business and technical needs
  • Collaborate with capability-owner teams to align standards, integrate services, and deliver a cohesive platform experience
  • Maintain relationships with business partners and shared technology teams to align governance, roadmaps, and service delivery

Requirements

  • Experience in cloud computing; Azure strongly preferred
  • Expertise in automation and Infrastructure-as-Code, including Terraform, Bicep, or ARM
  • Experience using AI-assisted engineering tools such as GitHub Copilot or Azure OpenAI
  • Experience operating or supporting shared platform services, such as Kubernetes clusters, CI/CD systems, observability platforms, or security/risk tooling
  • Strong understanding of networking and security concepts
  • Experience with Identity and Access Management, including Azure AD, RBAC, and workload identity
  • Proficiency with cloud networking infrastructure and distributed system patterns
  • Hands-on experience with API gateways and cloud-based architectures
  • Strong system administration background
  • Scripting/programming proficiency in PowerShell, Bash, Python, or similar
  • Experience with containers and Kubernetes; AKS experience is an asset
