- Director of Engineering leading multifunctional teams building Insurance Technology systems for Manulife’s financial services business. Delivering reliable client-facing products across Canada.
Responsibilities
- Lead multifunctional engineering teams building and supporting Insurance Technology systems
- Lead teams in redesigning and building client-facing technology systems for Insurance and Affinity business in Canada
- Assist squads with Tier 2 and Tier 3 support under the application criticality framework
- Employ reusable and extensible frameworks, reference implementations, and patterns
- Build new functionality to deliver key product objectives
- Deliver exceptional user experiences through products and services with strong, extendable architectural design
- Guide and motivate engineering staff and focus on team engagement
- Maintain and support services with accountability for production reliability and usage
- Deliver new functionality
- Develop and support products, frameworks, and engineering patterns
Requirements
- 3+ years of experience leading teams or large-scale programs
- Preferred insurance or banking industry experience
- Deep, hands-on background in modern software development and practices
- Entrepreneurial spirit and comfort working within a rapidly changing startup environment
- Strong project management experience, including planning, estimation, roadmap building, hiring, and team building
- Familiarity with agile and DevOps principles
- Familiarity with test-driven development and continuous integration
- Experience developing engineers and passion for growing staff
- Experience experimenting with emerging technologies
- Capacity for constant learning, openness to change, and continuous improvement
- Excellent organizational and problem-solving abilities
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to articulate and communicate technical vision, possibilities, and outcomes across all organizational levels
- Understanding of capital markets or financial services fundamentals, or willingness to learn
- React, NodeJS, AKS, and Azure platform familiarity preferred
