About the role

  • Reinsurance accounting manager leading complex treaty analysis, reporting, and accounting model implementation for Manulife’s global financial services operations.

Responsibilities

  • Lead analysis of reinsurance treaties and legal entities
  • Prepare and assess reinsurance results
  • Present analytical findings
  • Review and implement new reinsurance treaties
  • Ensure consistent and accurate implementation of reinsurance calculations and accounting models across global operations
  • Manage and own special projects related to new accounting standards, operational initiatives, or treaty agreements
  • Prepare and analyze reinsurance settlements and reporting for internal and external treaties
  • Compile and review reinsurance-related footnote disclosures and Annual Financial Statement schedules
  • Present reinsurance financial results to stakeholders quarterly
  • Define and evaluate new reinsurance treaty accounting models and calculation methodologies
  • Collaborate with global IT, Actuarial, Finance, and Investments teams on system and process changes
  • Mentor team members and share best practices

Requirements

  • 6+ years of experience in an insurance or financial services environment
  • University degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline
  • Ability to learn and apply a large amount of technical accounting material
  • Proficiency using Microsoft Office, particularly Microsoft Excel and Power BI
  • Self-starter capable of working independently, with attention to detail and strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to multitask and manage priorities in a demanding and deadline-oriented environment
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, written and verbal
  • Comfortable working with senior levels of management
  • Well-organized and innovative with an aptitude for automation/process improvements
  • Commitment to understanding complex financial transactions and maintaining strong internal controls
  • Able to work as part of a team with a positive attitude and strong work ethic
  • CPA designation preferred
