About the role
- Systems Engineer integrating Motorola Solutions’ mission-critical radio networks and ASTRO 25 systems. Overseeing design, testing, licensing, documentation, upgrades, and customer acceptance.
Responsibilities
- Provide system integration support for Motorola’s ASTRO 25 and adjacent product portfolios
- Participate in system upgrades, ad hoc engineering consulting, and other technical services
- Take responsibility for and oversee all technical aspects of assigned projects from award until system acceptance
- Complete final design and implementation of radio networks, including infrastructure, subscribers, and mobile backhaul
- Deliver customer presentations
- Perform system staging and acceptance testing
- Conduct RF prediction, testing, and interference mitigation
- Manage RF spectrum licensing through ISED
- Prepare system fleet maps and radio programming templates
- Complete system documentation
- Execute live system upgrades
- Travel during all project phases, from design through final acceptance
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in an engineering or technical discipline
- 5+ years of engineering or technical experience
- Membership or eligibility for membership in the applicable provincial Professional Engineering Association
- Must be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident
- Ability to obtain RMCP security clearance as required by government customers
- Must be eligible to obtain background clearance if required by government customers
- Experience or knowledge in radio communication systems, radio propagation, RF, and wireless
- Good understanding and working knowledge of IP networking, network design methodologies, and troubleshooting, including Ethernet, TCP/IP, L2/L3, and MPLS
- Certifications such as CompTIA Network+, Juniper JNCIA-Junos, Nokia NRS1, CCNA, or similar are highly desirable
- Previous knowledge and experience with Juniper, Aviat, Cisco, Nokia/Alcatel, Xtreme, or Ceragon is highly desirable
- Experience or knowledge in line-of-sight microwave propagation is desirable
- Experienced Professional Engineer with multiple years of communications systems design and deployment experience
- Ability to present confidently and persuasively to internal and external customers
- Solid understanding of communications systems and the project management environment
- Ability to travel 25–50%
