About the role

  • Insurance adjuster investigating, assessing, negotiating, and settling physical and property damage claims for Manitoba Public Insurance. Meeting customers and gathering evidence to determine coverage and liability.

Responsibilities

  • Represent MPI in handling insurance claims and provide exceptional customer service
  • Meet with customers to obtain claim facts and information
  • Resolve claims using listening skills, resiliency, patience and empathy
  • Explain the claims process, including timelines, benefits, coverage, quantum, subrogation, liability, driver safety rating and deductible impacts
  • Communicate with customers, witnesses, third parties and business partners by telephone, written correspondence and in person
  • Process claims within established customer service standards
  • Investigate, assess, negotiate and settle physical and property damage claims
  • Review claims to confirm coverage, liability and quantum
  • Contact witnesses, passengers, first responders, law enforcement, hospitals and tow truck operators
  • Visit accident scenes and review video footage as required
  • Interpret, analyse and confirm coverage under provincial acts, regulations and legislation
  • Recommend claim approval or denial when coverage issues exist

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent and three years of general office, customer service or call centre experience
  • OR two-year diploma from an accredited post-secondary institution and one year of general office, customer service or call centre experience
  • Ability to work with a high level of initiative
  • Intermediate communication skills to convey complex information concisely and obtain information professionally
  • Intermediate analytical and decision-making skills
  • Working knowledge of MS Office suite of products
  • Successful completion of the Adjuster Development Program within 12 months
  • Applicants must be able to obtain their Commissioner for Oaths
  • Ability to work shift work
  • Ability to type a minimum of 40 words per minute; testing may be required
