About the role

  • IT Operations Administrator maintaining Manitoba Public Insurance’s enterprise print and computing environments in Winnipeg. Managing printing, batch operations, hardware, inventories, documentation, and change processes.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain MPI computing and enterprise print environments.
  • Manage high-volume and colour printing, print operations, printer consumables, print quality control, ad-hoc print requests, and customer letter reprints.
  • Assist vendors with technical printer repairs.
  • Assist with hardware upgrades and maintenance.
  • Run daily batch submissions, file transfers, print operations, and similar procedures.
  • Schedule, review, and optimize scheduling processes.
  • Provide extended-hour shift coverage and on-call support for print, reporting, and technical jobs.
  • Work with Application Services to ensure technical procedures are accurate.
  • Participate in IT Asset Management procedures, including shelved equipment and disposals.
  • Manage printer consumables, paper, and pre-printed form inventories.
  • Coordinate portable offsite tape media.
  • Audit and securely destroy electronic media and devices.
  • Develop and maintain IT support documentation and publish procedures.
  • Collaborate with technical teams to ensure document and procedure quality.
  • Participate in change management processes for safe and orderly operations-related changes.
  • Provide operational expertise to other areas as a consultant resource.
  • Recommend and implement improvements to IT Operations procedures and practices.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • One technical certification e.g. A+ Certifications or Microsoft Certified Certificates OR two courses in Computer Science or related technical discipline.
  • Two years of experience working in a data centre operations department or an IT Service Desk, or working with Intel Servers, Midrange Servers (Unix, AS/400), High-Capacity Printing Technology, or Asset and/or Inventory Management.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to learn and/or operate office software and equipment.
  • Ability to work with minimal direction and exercise initiative.
  • Organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and prioritize assignments.
  • Interpersonal skills.
  • May be required to participate in rotating on-call support.
  • Valid driver’s licence.
  • Physically able to lift up to 40 lbs. (18 kg.); testing may be required.
