About the role
- Senior QA Analyst testing Nelson’s digital K-12 learning products across frontend, backend, API, and database layers. Building automation and investigating accessibility, performance, and infrastructure quality issues.
Responsibilities
- Work with product, development, design, infrastructure, and QA teams to deliver reliable and accessible digital learning products
- Test web applications across frontend and backend using manual, API, database, automation, accessibility, and performance testing methods
- Participate throughout the software development lifecycle, including planning, design reviews, test preparation, testing, defect investigation, release validation, and production regression testing
- Create, maintain, and execute test plans, test scenarios, and test cases
- Test user interfaces, APIs, databases, integrations, and services
- Perform functional, regression, smoke, exploratory, integration, usability, and cross-browser testing
- Find, reproduce, investigate, and document defects in Jira
- Collaborate with stakeholders to investigate and resolve quality issues
- Validate work against functional requirements, acceptance criteria, design expectations, and quality standards
- Create, maintain, execute, and improve automated tests using Playwright or similar tools
- Improve automated regression suite structure, reliability, coverage, and maintainability
- Use AI coding assistants to support test development, troubleshooting, documentation, and QA activities
- Maintain QA documentation, testing standards, and reusable practices
- Participate in release testing and identify quality risks
- Support infrastructure and platform testing when assigned
- Use logs, traces, metrics, and distributed traces for defect investigation, triage, and root cause analysis
- Create and execute load and performance tests using k6 or similar tools
- Review performance metrics including response time, throughput, error rate, and p95 latency
- Compare performance results against baselines to identify regressions
- Investigate performance issues with developers and infrastructure engineers
- Assist with release and production readiness testing
- Work primarily from 1:00 PM to 9:00 PM Eastern Time to support Pacific Time Zone teams
Requirements
- 4 or more years of professional experience in software quality assurance or software testing, preferably with web based applications
- Strong experience testing modern web applications across frontend and backend systems
- Hands-on experience testing APIs, databases, integrations, and backend services
- Experience creating test plans, test strategies, test scenarios, and detailed test cases
- Experience designing, writing, and maintaining automated tests; Playwright strongly preferred
- Understanding of web application architecture, frontend and backend systems, APIs, databases, services, and common security concepts
- Experience using Jira or a similar issue tracking system
- Experience working in Agile and Scrum environments
- Experience with accessibility testing and knowledge of AODA or related accessibility standards
- Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills
- Clear written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities
- Strong collaboration skills and ability to work with cross-functional teams
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience
- Observability and telemetry knowledge preferred
- Experience with Grafana, Datadog, OpenTelemetry, Application Insights, or similar tools preferred
- Performance and load testing with k6 or similar preferred
- Knowledge of p95 latency, throughput, response time, and error rate preferred
- Experience with REST APIs or gRPC services preferred
- Experience with AI coding assistants such as Claude Code or Codex preferred
- Experience with automation frameworks, CI workflows, or automated regression pipelines preferred
- Education technology or digital product testing experience is an asset
