About the role

  • Principal Mechanical Designer creating 3D designs and detailed engineering for Sedgman’s mineral-processing projects. Providing drafting expertise, quality checks, and mentoring to project teams.

Responsibilities

  • Complete detailed design from sketches or specification outlines across mechanical, process, electrical, structural, hydraulics or civil engineering fields under direction of engineers or a supervising design drafter
  • Create 3D designs from complex, multidiscipline engineering concepts
  • Participate in design reviews and advise on technical drafting difficulties or compliance requirements
  • Comply with the Change Management process for engineering design
  • Prepare drawings relating to plant, equipment, services, facilities or structures
  • Participate in development and continuous improvement of the Quality management process and system
  • Ensure engineering designs follow standard Sedgman design workflows, systems and procedures
  • Provide subject matter expertise, coaching and mentoring to junior team members and project teams
  • Focus on schedule, quality and client satisfaction
  • Check drafting deliverables for accuracy, completeness and adherence to design specifications and intent
  • Apply attention and diligence to uphold quality and client standards and complete tasks efficiently

Requirements

  • Associate Diploma in CAD / Associate Degree in Engineering or equivalent
  • Minimum of 20+ years’ industry experience in a design / consultancy environment, preferably supporting mining, minerals processing, or heavy industries
  • Demonstrated knowledge & experience as SME on projects from conceptual design through to detailed engineering
  • Superior knowledge of AutoCAD 3D modelling programs, such as AutoCAD Plant 3D, Advanced Steel, Autodesk Construction Cloud, Vault and Plant3D
  • MS Office skills
  • Ability to coach / mentor team members
  • Must be eligible to work in Canada
  • Must be bilingual
