About the role
- Student supporting cancer clinical trial data management and reporting at Ontario’s cancer research institute. Reviewing trial records, creating plain-language summaries, and assisting dashboard and workflow improvements.
Responsibilities
- Review and update cancer trial records in the database using available source information
- Support improvements to data completeness, consistency, and quality across trial records
- Assist with preparing or editing lay summaries to make trial information easier to understand for patients, their families and public
- Help document common data issues, gaps, and recommended follow-up actions
- Conduct background scans or environmental reviews of relevant digital tools, dashboards, and clinical trial information platforms
- Summarize findings and provide practical recommendations to support future database development, reporting, dashboard development, communication activities, and digital workflow improvements
- Use advanced Excel functions, including Power Query, as well as Power BI, GitHub, and AI/Copilot tools to support data review, analysis, documentation, automation, and reporting tasks where appropriate
- Support other related informatics, reporting, and portfolio management tasks as needed
Requirements
- Enrolled in a post-secondary program in health, life sciences, public health, informatics, data management, or a related field
- Advanced MS Excel skills, including experience with formulas, pivot tables, and Power Query for data preparation and transformation
- Experience with Power BI for data visualization, dashboard development, or reporting is strongly preferred
- Familiarity with GitHub for version control, documentation, collaboration, or project tracking
- Working knowledge of AI tools including Microsoft Copilot or similar tools
- Strong attention to detail and ability to work accurately with structured information
- Good written communication skills, including the ability to summarize technical information in clear language
- Ability to work independently, ask questions when clarification is needed, and manage assigned tasks within agreed timelines
- Interest in clinical research and trials, cancer research, health data, and applied use of digital tools for system improvement
