Senior Software Engineer, Connectivity – API Transformation

About the role
- Senior Software Engineer building Pantheon’s cloud WebOps connectivity and API platform. Designing federated APIs, distributed services, networking, and workflow orchestration at scale.
Responsibilities
- Build and evolve Pantheon's unified API: a federated GraphQL supergraph and Go subgraphs serving the Dashboard and public API
- Shape service connectivity through VPC and network architecture, service discovery strategy, and internal traffic standards
- Decompose a large legacy Python monolith into well-bounded services and own the Cassandra data layer, including replication, backup, and disaster recovery
- Design and operate workflow orchestration at platform scale using GCP Workflows, Pub/Sub-driven job execution, and Go services on Cloud Run
- Set GraphQL, gRPC, and REST standards for other engineering teams and serve as a technical resource across the organization
- Own production systems, track health with SLOs, resolve production issues, and balance delivery speed with reliability
- Participate in on-call engineering and alert response rotations
- Raise engineering quality through code review, design feedback, and mentorship
Requirements
- Significant work experience building and operating production services in Go, with adaptability to work in a polyglot codebase including Rust and Python
- Experience designing APIs with schema design, versioning, and backward compatibility judgment; GraphQL, gRPC, or REST at scale
- Work-related experience with large-scale, high-traffic distributed systems and scalable, robust services
- Experience carving services out of a monolith or evolving a legacy system incrementally while keeping it running
- Working knowledge of cloud networking fundamentals: VPCs, DNS, load balancing, and service-to-service authentication
- Understanding and working knowledge of Kubernetes, Terraform, CI/CD pipelines, and release engineering practices
- Experience with a major cloud provider; GCP especially welcome
- Experience with observability tooling such as Grafana Cloud, Prometheus, and OpenTelemetry
- Experience supporting live sites and participating in on-call
- Clear communication skills and ability to represent contributions and ideas clearly while remaining open to others
