About the role
- Construction Superintendent leading jobsite safety, teams, schedules, and project execution for PCL Construction. Managing budgets, risks, quality, and stakeholder coordination in Sudbury.
Responsibilities
- Work with the project manager to implement PCL’s safety program and integrate it into site plans and procedures
- Supervise, direct, coach, train, and mentor project team members, including direct and indirect reports
- Communicate with own forces and trades and ensure performance, productivity, quality, and safety requirements are met
- Collaborate with the construction/project manager and project team
- Proactively manage potential problems, work interferences, schedule conflicts, and setbacks
- Liaise between field engineers, estimators, and subcontractors to ensure construction complies with drawings and specifications
- Liaise with clients, site contractors, union and labor relations, and site and office representatives
- Visualize projects, create complete project schedules, identify critical paths, and anticipate constructability issues
- Develop and implement Project Execution Plans and resource-loaded three-week lookahead schedules
- Create, maintain, and execute project plans and schedules while ensuring budget and quality compliance
- Review contracts and subcontracts; develop risk mitigation and opportunity plans to meet budgets, forecasts, profitability, and other financial targets
- Maintain project administration correspondence and documentation
- Develop and maintain customer-focused relationships with stakeholders
Requirements
- Journeyman certificate or undergraduate/engineering degree in a related discipline
- Enrollment in the Gold Seal program (CDN) preferred
- 10 years of progressive field supervision experience preferred
- Successfully supervised a construction workforce
- In-depth knowledge and experience in the construction industry and company operations, including building materials, construction specifications, and methods and procedures
- Understanding of project scope and ability to apply intermediate-complex engineering principles and embed solutions in construction plans and schedules
- Proficient understanding of and ability to apply logic to the schedule using scheduling software
- Ability to coordinate multiple construction project scopes, including scheduling, monitoring, and coordinating own forces work and trade contractors with three-week lookahead schedules
- Thorough understanding of productivity rates, own forces work (OFW), Labor Cost Reports (LCRs), and cost report interpretation
- Thorough understanding of contract language, with ability to identify and mitigate risks and leverage opportunities
- In-depth knowledge and application of safety and environmental principles, procedures, and legislation
- Ability to lead and run effective site meetings and present at client meetings or project pursuit work
- Demonstrated conflict-resolution skills, problem-solving abilities, and professional judgment
- Ability to develop and maintain effective stakeholder relationships
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and internal operational systems
