About the role

  • Software Architect designing Azure-based platform services for Petal, a Canadian healthcare orchestration and billing company. Defining scalable architecture, IAM, DevOps standards, and reusable capabilities across SaaS products.

Responsibilities

  • Shape the technical direction of the product area by designing scalable, secure, and maintainable solutions
  • Define architecture, document technical decisions, and prepare the technical foundation for upcoming work in Sprint 0
  • Collaborate with Product Management, Design, and the Development Manager from discovery through delivery
  • Support engineers by resolving architectural challenges and validating design decisions
  • Help teams navigate complex technical problems
  • Work with other Architects and Principal Developers to integrate solutions across the Petal platform
  • Establish technical standards and manage architectural debt
  • Mentor Technical Leads
  • Continuously improve engineering practices
  • Build platform-first capabilities, shared application services, and reusable services for Petal's SaaS products

Requirements

  • 10+ years of experience in software engineering and solution architecture
  • Proven track record designing and delivering enterprise-scale distributed systems
  • Experience designing shared services, reusable APIs, developer platforms, and internal products adopted across multiple engineering teams
  • Experience leveraging AI-powered development tools
  • Expert-level system design skills
  • Experience building resilient, scalable, secure, and highly available cloud-native applications and distributed systems
  • Strong understanding of API-first design, event-driven architectures, microservices, integration patterns, and modern application platforms
  • Hands-on capability building proof-of-concepts, reviewing code, validating architectural decisions, and solving complex technical challenges
  • Deep expertise in Microsoft Azure, including cloud-native application architecture, networking, security, identity, observability, and platform services
  • Strong experience with IAM, OAuth2, OpenID Connect, SAML, RBAC/ABAC/ReBAC, identity providers, and secure application design
  • Experience collaborating with Product Managers, Designers, Development Managers, and Technical Leads
  • Ability to explain technical concepts, architectural trade-offs, and technology strategy to technical and business stakeholders
  • Experience establishing engineering standards, architecture governance, security best practices, and technical roadmaps
  • Strong DevOps and engineering productivity experience, including CI/CD, Infrastructure as Code, observability, automation, developer experience, and modern software delivery practices
