About the role

  • Staff Software Engineer building Java microservices for Ping Identity’s cloud identity and access management platform. Designing secure authentication, SSO, federation, and application integration capabilities.

Responsibilities

  • Design and deliver major features across PingOne Authentication and SSO services in a high-scale multi-tenant SaaS environment
  • Architect and implement secure, reliable Java-based microservices and APIs supporting authentication, authorization flows, SSO, federation, and application integrations
  • Drive technical decisions balancing product requirements, performance, reliability, security, and operational simplicity
  • Partner with Product Management, Architecture, UX, SRE, and engineering teams from discovery through production rollout
  • Improve service resilience, observability, operability, and deployment safety
  • Raise engineering standards for testability, maintainability, and production readiness
  • Drive quality strategy and test automation in a CI/CD environment
  • Use modern engineering and AI-assisted development practices to improve effectiveness, quality, and delivery speed
  • Participate in on-call rotation and help lead incident response, root-cause analysis, and follow-through actions

Requirements

  • Working knowledge of OIDC, SAML, and WS-Fed
  • Experience with SSO/federation integrations, protocol troubleshooting, and identity provider/service provider configuration
  • Significant hands-on experience building and deploying highly scalable, high-performance cloud services, ideally in a multi-tenant SaaS environment
  • Staff-level Java development experience
  • Fluency with object-oriented design and modern engineering practices
  • Experience in UI development; ReactJS preferred
  • Experience designing and building microservices and REST APIs, ideally using Spring or similar frameworks
  • Strong technical judgment and experience contributing to technical designs, proof-of-concept work, and architecture discussions
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills and ability to work across a globally distributed engineering organization
  • Ability to mentor engineers and improve team-wide engineering practices
  • Experience operating or supporting production SaaS systems, including on-call and incident response
  • Comfort with Docker, Kubernetes, CI/CD pipelines, and modern build and delivery tooling
  • Nice to have: AI agents, agent identity, non-human identity, MCP, or adjacent integration concepts
  • Nice to have: Cassandra, Kafka, and event-driven distributed systems
  • Nice to have: secure coding, OWASP guidance, PKI, cryptography, and certificate/key management
