About the role

  • Engineer-in-Training designing protection, control, and metering systems for Qualus substations. Supporting utility power infrastructure projects from concept through construction and commissioning.

Responsibilities

  • Perform and coordinate the design of protection, control, and metering systems for electrical substations from 12 kV to 500 kV
  • Support and gradually take ownership of key design deliverables, including one-line diagrams, protection schematics, AC/DC schematics, wiring diagrams, panel layouts, and interconnection diagrams
  • Develop protection and control design criteria and philosophies
  • Prepare and review specifications, reports, construction packages, and test plans
  • Assist in developing outage staging plans and commissioning documentation
  • Perform configuration support for protection relays and automation devices
  • Review vendor drawings and technical submissions
  • Participate in design reviews, Safety by Design sessions, and constructability assessments
  • Provide engineering support during construction and commissioning, including responding to RFIs and participating in site visits and field reviews
  • Participate in factory acceptance testing and inspections as required
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams to ensure coordinated designs
  • Manage assigned project tasks within scope, schedule, and budget constraints
  • Maintain accurate documentation and contribute to quality assurance and continuous improvement
  • Travel to client sites as required during project execution

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering from a recognized university
  • Registered as an Engineer-in-Training (EIT) or eligible for / working toward P.Eng. designation
  • 2–5 years of relevant experience in power systems, transmission & distribution, or substation design
  • Familiarity with substation protection and control systems, including relaying schemes and AC/DC designs
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to develop practical engineering solutions
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks in a deadline-driven environment
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with internal teams, clients, and vendors
  • Proven ability to collaborate within a multidisciplinary engineering environment
