About the role
- Staff Software Engineer owning OAuth, authorization, and agent delegation systems. Building governed identity infrastructure for Redpanda’s enterprise AI data platform.
Responsibilities
- Own technical direction for AuthN, AuthZ, and OBO across the Agentic Data Platform and Cloud platform
- Decide which emerging industry patterns Redpanda adopts, adapts, or avoids
- Extend the OAuth 2.1 authorization server and token vault
- Build delegated tool-access flows and a cryptographic delegation model for auditable on-behalf-of authority chains
- Partner with identity-federation systems including Okta, Entra, Ping, and similar providers
- Collaborate with Agentic Data Plane, Cloud platform engineering, Security, and Product
- Represent Redpanda's technical position in customer security conversations, documentation, and standards efforts
- Ship production-hardened systems to customers
- Mentor engineers across Agentic Data Platform and Cloud platform without formal management authority
- Escalate systemic challenges and impediments to engineering leadership
- Discuss strategic topics with peers and Directors
- Track progress, assess risks, and communicate contingency and mitigation plans
Requirements
- 10+ years of experience in software development and delivery, with deep, hands-on expertise in authentication, authorization, or identity systems
- Production experience with OAuth 2.0/2.1, OIDC, token exchange or delegation patterns (e.g. RFC 8693, on-behalf-of flows)
- Practical experience running an authorization server and token vault at scale
- Current point of view on agent identity standards, including MCP auth, A2A, and cross-app access patterns
- Experience federating with customers' existing identity providers, such as Okta, Entra, or Ping, in security-conscious enterprise environments
- Track record of driving technical direction across multiple teams or organizations as an individual contributor
- Experience collaborating with globally distributed engineering teams and working openly on GitHub
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Direct experience with OAuth 2.1/OIDC authorization servers, token vaults, or equivalent identity infrastructure is highlighted
- Experience with agent-specific identity or delegation protocols is highlighted
- Experience with relevant open standards bodies or working groups is highlighted
- Experience in regulated or security-sensitive enterprise environments is highlighted
- Prior Staff/Principal-level individual contributor experience is highlighted
