About the role

  • Caseworker assessing Ontario Works eligibility and coordinating financial, employment, and social supports. Serving Peel Region residents through client-centred case management and community referrals.

Responsibilities

  • Complete application interviews and determine eligibility for Ontario Works Assistance
  • Verify documentation, contact clients, assess employability and emergencies, and make appropriate referrals
  • Assess employment, financial, social, health, housing, and childcare needs
  • Request and review third-party reference checks to verify assets, income, and living arrangements
  • Provide crisis intervention, referrals, stabilization support, daily living assistance, and life-skills support
  • Resolve client disputes and complaints through listening, mediation, negotiation, and service planning
  • Complete applicant assessments, case plans, eligibility documentation, financial reviews, and follow-ups
  • Assess employment and financial eligibility and authorize monthly entitlements
  • Refer clients to employment programs, social service agencies, legal services, and community resources
  • Document ineligibility reasons and advise clients in writing
  • Maintain follow-up systems, conduct regular client contact, and complete in-person updates
  • Issue benefits under the Ontario Works Act and maintain program integrity in computer applications
  • Prepare month-end reports and process correspondence and computer output daily
  • Return client calls within 24 hours
  • Collaborate with agencies and regional departments through case conferencing and joint meetings
  • Provide recommendations to reduce systemic barriers
  • Work on multidisciplinary teams with community partners
  • Promote the Outreach program and support clients with rental arrears
  • Provide coworker coverage, information sharing, and team support
  • Maintain a safe environment and adhere to safety protocols
  • Act as a program-area champion or subject matter expert
  • Complete home visits as required
  • Chair meetings, present to community agencies, and participate in special projects
  • Provide information and referrals on internal and community services
  • Assess client circumstances and determine appropriate pursuit of support
  • Maintain knowledge of government policies, programs, and legislation relevant to OW and MCSS
  • Review support documents and complete forms for initial and ongoing eligibility
  • Advise FSRs on cheque delivery and initiate trace or replacement-cheque requests
  • Recommend client-centred changes to operations, programs, practices, and policies

Requirements

  • Graduation from a post-secondary school with a degree/diploma in the human services field, such as psychology, sociology, or social services
  • One year experience as a Caseworker
  • Knowledge of applicable policies, legislation, procedures, and acts, including the Ontario Works Act, Ontario Disability Support Program Act, and MFIPPA
  • Knowledge of community resources, social programs, government legislation, and services supporting employment, personal and financial opportunities, and emergencies
  • Creativity in case management and employment case management skills
  • Mathematical skills to compute and monitor entitlements and prepare statistical reports
  • Valid Class G driver’s license and access to a vehicle
  • May be required to provide an acceptable driver abstract and successfully pass a Regional safe driving course
  • Knowledge and sensitivity toward cultural diversity and accessibility needs
  • Knowledge and sensitivity of mental health/addiction issues and victims of violence and abuse
  • Knowledge of SAMS, SALI, Microsoft Office, intranet, CBS, and the internet
  • Clear Vulnerable Sector Check required prior to hire
