Business Development Representative leading discovery and first sales conversations for Relay, a digital banking platform. Qualifying small-business prospects and enabling Account Executive handoffs.
Responsibilities
Own the first sales conversation with prospective customers
Connect directly with business owners to understand their businesses, needs, and challenges
Work a mix of inbound and outbound leads selected based on fit and buying signals
Lead phone conversations with small business owners
Run discovery into how prospects manage their businesses and finances
Handle objections and guide qualified prospects toward the right next step
Explain Relay’s value in clear, simple language
Provide Account Executives with context for continuing conversations
Meet activity, conversion, and meeting targets
Review performance, seek coaching, and apply feedback to future calls
Surface recurring objections, lead-quality issues, and process gaps
Help improve team resources, talk tracks, and workflows
Requirements
6+ months of SDR, BDR, or similar sales experience with a consistent record of meeting or exceeding performance targets
History of pursuing difficult goals at a high level through sales, work, school, sports, or another disciplined activity
Strong ownership over results and focus on controllable actions
Highly coachable and able to seek, apply, and demonstrate feedback
Competitive, driven to improve, and hungry for growth
Comfortable working through change and unclear processes
Confident communicator able to ask thoughtful questions, handle objections, and explain complex products simply
Experience in B2B, SaaS, fintech, accounting software, neobanking, or selling to small businesses is a strong plus
Experience in hospitality, competitive athletics, entrepreneurship, peer coaching, process-building, or thoughtful use of AI is a strong supporting signal
Legally authorized to work in Canada
Able to join the office three days a week (Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday)
