About the role

  • Payroll Coordinator processing semi-monthly payroll for Retailors, a global Nike retail operator. Supporting Canadian payroll compliance, HR, Finance reconciliations, and employee inquiries.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and process semi-monthly payroll for hourly and salaried employees within the Jumbo brand
  • Provide payroll support for other brands as needed
  • Review timesheets, attendance, overtime, vacation, statutory holiday, sick time, and other payroll information
  • Process payroll changes, new hires, terminations, promotions, transfers, and compensation changes
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date employee payroll records
  • Review payroll reports, identify discrepancies, investigate differences, and escalate issues before payroll submission
  • Process payroll adjustments, retroactive payments, bonuses, commissions, and other earnings
  • Respond to employee and manager inquiries regarding payroll, deductions, benefits, and pay-related matters
  • Process payroll in accordance with applicable federal and provincial legislation and company policies
  • Assist with government remittances, payroll-related filings, year-end payroll activities, T4s, and required reporting
  • Maintain payroll documentation and records for audit and compliance purposes
  • Stay informed of changes to Canadian payroll legislation and requirements
  • Assist in documenting, developing, and maintaining payroll SOPs for Jumbo
  • Work with HR to ensure employee information and payroll changes are accurately reflected in payroll systems
  • Partner with Finance on payroll reconciliations, reporting, and month-end activities
  • Assist with payroll-related accounting entries and reconciliations
  • Support onboarding and offboarding from a payroll perspective
  • Assist with payroll audits and provide required documentation
  • Support development and improvement of payroll processes and internal controls
  • Complete additional payroll-related projects and assignments as required

Requirements

  • Post-secondary education in Payroll, Accounting, Finance, Human Resources, or a related field
  • Recently graduated from a relevant program or approximately 1 year of payroll experience
  • Basic understanding of Canadian payroll principles and legislation
  • Experience with payroll systems or HRIS platforms is an asset
  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills, including formulas, lookups, sorting, filtering, and data sets
  • Strong attention to detail and a high level of accuracy
  • Ability to identify discrepancies, investigate differences, and communicate findings clearly
  • Retail, multi-location, or high-volume payroll experience is an asset, but not required
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to meet deadlines
  • Experience with ADP, BambooHR, and B-Soft is a strong asset
  • Ability to handle sensitive employee and payroll information with professionalism and discretion
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, growing organization with changing priorities
  • Comfortable working with large data sets and learning multiple payroll, timekeeping, and HR systems
  • Candidates will be asked to complete an Excel assessment following the interview
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong customer-service mindset
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with HR, Finance, and Operations
