About the role

  • Employment Specialist counselling newcomers through S.U.C.C.E.S.S., a Canadian multicultural social services agency. Delivering career planning, employment webinars, job-search support, and employer connections.

Responsibilities

  • Provide employment counselling to newcomers and their family members through online services
  • Provide consultation on foreign credential recognition and alternative career planning
  • Assist clients through goal-setting, action planning, and follow-up to achieve employment outcomes
  • Plan, organize, and deliver employment webinars on labour market information, resume and cover letter writing, job search strategies, and interview skills
  • Work with the Job Developer to deliver employer connection activities
  • Link clients to IRCC-funded pre-arrival employment programs and professional and regulatory bodies
  • Research and assist in virtual recruitment activities, career talks, and job fairs
  • Assist in delivering job search programs and review/edit resumes and cover letters
  • Participate in staff meetings to share information, coordinate activities, and improve effectiveness
  • Document client needs, action items, progress notes, and outcomes in secure client database systems and iCare
  • Maintain and prepare accurate statistics and records for program monitoring, planning, budgeting, reporting, and evaluation
  • Perform other related duties as required

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Social Science
  • Career Development Practice Certificate or equivalent preferred
  • Experience in working with immigrant job seekers to Canada
  • Experience in one-on-one employment service delivery
  • Knowledge of case management process is an asset
  • Experience in conducting employment workshops
  • Knowledge of labour market information and resources in Canada
  • Knowledge of employment systems and workplace culture of Canada
  • iCARE experience an asset
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Second language is considered an asset
  • Excellent interpersonal and intercultural communication skills
  • Excellent group facilitation skills
  • Excellent active listening skills
  • Excellent time and resource management skills
  • Excellent computer skills in MS Office Suite, internet research, and database system management
  • Ability to work independently as well as a great team player
  • Ability to work with individuals facing cultural adjustment challenges
