About the role

  • Staff Firmware Engineer building embedded, edge AI, and full-stack safety systems. Samsara’s IoT platform helps physical-operation industries improve safety, efficiency, and sustainability.

Responsibilities

  • Own outcomes end-to-end from customer problem to shipped, measured feature across firmware, Go backend services, and web/mobile surfaces
  • Drive technology choices and implement embedded and firmware solutions
  • Establish architectural patterns with broad impact across device-to-cloud products
  • Leverage voice as an interface for AI Agents and human communication
  • Design for device constraints, connectivity, cloud services, and fleet-scale rollout
  • Identify opportunities and influence technology direction and engineering culture
  • Ensure edge AI algorithms are accurate and operate within device constraints
  • Build with AI agents and raise team AI fluency
  • Partner with Hardware, Backend, Web, Mobile, Product, and Customer Success teams
  • Lead teams delivering products and capabilities contributing to products and revenue
  • Solve complex technical problems and accelerate high-quality product delivery
  • Act as a multiplier for team impact and output
  • Champion Samsara’s cultural principles as the company scales globally

Requirements

  • 10+ years of experience designing, developing, and deploying software
  • At least 2 years in a technical leadership or architecture role
  • Deep expertise in at least one embedded domain, such as multimedia, connectivity, drivers and kernel, power, or real-time systems
  • Experience shipping across firmware, Go backend services, and web or mobile surfaces
  • Strong programming skills in C/C++, Go, Python, or similar
  • Product and systems thinking, including device constraints, connectivity, cloud, and fleet-scale rollout
  • Experience using AI tools in day-to-day engineering work and building with AI agents
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and deliver complex, high-impact projects with multiple dependencies
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills
  • Track record of building systems under scarce compute, data, or hardware budgets
  • Expertise in multimedia frameworks, video codecs, and camera systems (ideal candidate)
  • Experience developing and managing software for large-scale embedded systems deployed on 1M+ devices (ideal candidate)
  • Experience deploying CV/ML models on edge devices (ideal candidate)
  • Background in robotics, drones, consumer electronics, or automotive (ideal candidate)
