About the role

  • Project Manager coordinating distributed software teams and language technology field trials for SIL, a global nonprofit. Aligning product roadmaps, Agile processes, budgets, user research, and stakeholder reporting across language programs.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate the work of distributed software development teams and field trial users throughout the product lifecycle
  • Manage project schedules, communications, dependencies, financial management, and progress communication to external funders and co-development partners
  • Collaborate with the Development team, Language Technology leadership, partners, supporting organizations, user communities, and field-trial leaders
  • Align technology roadmaps and sprint priorities with language program roadmaps
  • Develop processes for collecting, synthesizing, and presenting team progress and process data
  • Champion team processes and development velocity in alignment with product strategy
  • Organize and manage user research deliverables and resulting insights
  • Coordinate product long-term vision and strategy with language program strategies
  • Align product development priorities and processes with language program roadmaps
  • Support yearly budget and funding proposals, budget development, and partnership reporting
  • Provide quarterly reports and requested metrics to Language Technology Leadership
  • Research, champion, and deploy process management systems and applications
  • Oversee integration of Agile software development methodologies with language program methodologies
  • Lead regular project status, planning, and partnership meetings
  • Support reporting of project hardware, software budget, and immediate needs
  • Travel to meet the larger development team and attend the Language Technology Conference

Requirements

  • Experience managing projects for software engineering teams
  • Strong understanding of the software development lifecycle
  • Experience leading development teams in a project management role
  • 3 to 5 years’ experience in project management for software development teams preferred
  • Demonstrated understanding of software development processes and methodologies
  • Demonstrated ability to identify and resolve complex team interactions and interdependencies affecting product development or priorities
  • Appreciation for quality user interface design
  • Good interpersonal communication skills
  • Good organizational skills
  • Ability to quickly analyze and learn a large existing product offering
  • Ability to make timely decisions
  • Ability to generate and analyze multiple solutions to a problem
  • Ability to quickly learn technical concepts
  • Ability to work with a team and independently, and multitask effectively
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in computer science or equivalent work experience preferred
  • PMP certification is a strong plus
  • Must be able to legally work within the U.S.
  • Must complete the initial IT Software Department training program and relevant portions of IT Orientation
  • Ability to travel to meet the larger development team at least once per year
  • Ability to travel biannually to the Language Technology Conference
