About the role

  • Principal engineer architecting SkyWatch’s sovereign satellite-data platform for Canadian defence environments. Building the Ottawa team, leading accreditation, interoperability and auditable AI-agent delivery.

Responsibilities

  • Own the sovereign product-line architecture and roadmap
  • Design deployment architecture for private-cloud, on-premises and air-gapped environments
  • Own data segregation, secure multi-tenant distribution and end-to-end security design
  • Lead technical evidence for security assessment and authorization, including ITSG-33 controls at Protected B
  • Build audit and logging into the product
  • Ensure a simple, fast and obvious user experience for analysts and operators under time pressure and disconnected conditions
  • Deliver interoperability using NITF/NSIF, SIDD, GeoPackage and STANAG 4559
  • Integrate with common operating picture, GIS and TAK environments
  • Develop auditable AI-agent workflows over sovereign data, including trace retention and human-in-the-loop workflows
  • Evaluate AI answer quality and latency
  • Own the Government & Defence roadmap and SDLC
  • Act as technical acceptance authority at each delivery milestone
  • Make build, accreditation and support decisions balancing customer and company needs
  • Hire, lead and grow approximately six Ottawa engineers and two continuously staffed co-op seats over 2027
  • Run a co-op mentorship programme with local universities
  • Own the government support agent, user experience and knowledge corpus inside the sovereign access boundary
  • Report to the CEO and collaborate with government technical authorities

Requirements

  • 10+ years building production software, including 3+ years as a principal, architect or technical lead on secure or defence systems
  • Hands-on experience with on-premises, private-cloud or air-gapped deployment
  • Experience with security assessment and authorization (ITSG-33, NIST 800-53 or equivalent)
  • Experience leading an engineering team through milestone-based delivery to a government customer
  • Software shaped for analysts or operators that set a high bar for usability, demonstrable at an unclassified level
  • Experience making build decisions involving cost to deliver, reuse across customers or time to market
  • Canadian citizenship
  • Eligibility to obtain and maintain a Government of Canada security clearance (Secret or higher)
  • Experience with geospatial, imagery or ISR data and defence interoperability standards (strongly preferred)
  • Experience deploying LLM or agent systems in regulated environments (preferred)
