About the role
- Cloud Architect designing and building a manufacturing software company’s first cloud-hosted SaaS product. Owning data pipelines, infrastructure, security, and customer-facing reporting end to end.
Responsibilities
- Design the architecture for a new multi-tenant SaaS product from customer-site data ingestion through cloud-hosted services to customer-facing reporting
- Build, deploy, and maintain cloud infrastructure and backend components hands-on
- Design reliable and secure data pipelines from on-premises manufacturing environments into the cloud
- Define patterns for multi-tenancy, customer data isolation, scalability, and security
- Evaluate cloud platforms and technology options, recommending starting points and scaling strategies
- Learn the existing on-premises product and apply that knowledge to a lighter cloud offering
- Deliver a platform proposal and recommended roles within the first three months
- Establish CI/CD pipelines, Infrastructure-as-Code, and monitoring
- Work with early customers to identify initial product needs
- Provide input on hiring and building the new engineering team
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience as a cloud or solutions architect
- Experience designing and building cloud systems end to end
- Experience with more than one major cloud platform, such as Microsoft Azure, AWS, or Google Cloud
- Experience building systems that ingest and process high volumes of operational data
- Significant experience designing and deploying databases at scale, including schema design, query performance, and storage trade-offs
- Strong grasp of distributed systems: data flow, service boundaries, failure modes, and resilience patterns
- Experience integrating cloud platforms with on-premises or operationally constrained environments
- Familiarity with SaaS patterns such as multi-tenancy, customer data isolation, and subscription-based delivery
- Experience producing cost analyses and platform recommendations
- Experience in industrial, IoT or manufacturing environments is nice to have
- Experience with .NET and SQL Server is nice to have
- Experience building or anchoring a new engineering team is nice to have
