About the role
- Software Engineer in Test building Playwright, API, CI, and performance automation for Stord’s commerce and fulfillment platform. Developing AI-assisted testing workflows and release-quality infrastructure.
Responsibilities
- Build and maintain API, integration, end-to-end, and load test automation across the test pyramid
- Partner with PMs to convert critical smoke-suite user flows into automated coverage
- Build Playwright-based E2E suites for [Product Group]'s golden-path user journeys
- Integrate test suites into GitHub Actions CI and gate releases on passing coverage
- Own suite health outcomes including flake reduction, runtime, and reliability
- Build tooling that converts acceptance criteria and user stories into test plans and automated scripts
- Evaluate and integrate AI-assisted test generation tools into daily workflows
- Reduce manual effort for interpreting execution results, validating outcomes, triaging suites, and maintaining coverage
- Build and maintain a regression test register mapping critical paths to automated coverage
- Integrate coverage reporting into a shared dashboard and maintain its accuracy
- Build load and performance testing frameworks for varied applications
- Partner with engineers to define and validate performance thresholds before release
- Ensure critical services receive load and soak testing ahead of peak season
- Audit existing test coverage, identify gaps, and provide test plans
- Establish contract/API testing at major service boundaries and pilot AI-assisted test generation
- Enable engineers to use load/performance frameworks and meet Stord's Definition of Done quality gates
Requirements
- Production E2E test automation experience using Playwright or equivalent
- Experience integrating test suites into GitHub Actions or equivalent CI/CD systems and configuring release gates
- Programming proficiency in JavaScript/TypeScript, Python, or similar
- Hands-on experience with contract testing tools such as Pact or API testing tools such as Postman
- Experience with load testing tools such as k6, Locust, or equivalent
- Experience using AI coding tools while applying independent technical judgment
- Terminal-first, CLI-native workflow and ability to script tooling rather than rely on GUI test recorders
- Ownership and accountability for features from design through production
- Ability to explain technical decisions and trade-offs to engineers, PMs, and stakeholders
- Collaborative approach, constructive code review, and active solicitation of teammate input
- Production mindset focused on reliability, user impact, failure modes, monitoring, and operations
- Comfort with rapidly evolving AI/ML technologies and tools
- Strongly preferred: experience building a test automation function from scratch
- Strongly preferred: experience partnering with PMs on acceptance criteria and Golden Path journey definition
- Strongly preferred: familiarity with coverage tooling and using coverage data to prioritize test investment
- Strongly preferred: hands-on exposure to AI-assisted test generation tooling
- Nice to have: experience in e-commerce, logistics, or supply-chain domains
- Nice to have: familiarity with Shopify, WMS-TMS, or billing systems
- Nice to have: experience with security/dependency scanning tools in CI
