About the role
- Cloud Engineer supporting Sun Life’s financial security and wellness technology infrastructure. Assisting cloud migration, automation, security, and multi-cloud initiatives across hybrid environments.
Responsibilities
- Assist in implementing cloud infrastructure solutions under guidance
- Participate in cloud migration, modernization, digital transformation, and proof-of-concept initiatives
- Follow cloud governance, security, DevOps, and SRE best practices
- Contribute to cloud resource optimization, capacity planning, and cost-saving efforts
- Implement security measures and participate in routine security checks and assessments
- Execute automation scripts for infrastructure provisioning and management, including GenAI-driven processes
- Support multi-cloud, hybrid cloud, containerization, resilience, and disaster recovery environments
- Contribute to cloud-native applications and services
- Help migrate legacy systems to cloud architecture
- Monitor cloud performance and assist with troubleshooting
- Create and maintain documentation for cloud systems and processes
- Collaborate with team members and stakeholders to align cloud work with business needs
- Receive mentorship from senior engineers and seek guidance on cloud-related decisions
- Learn and experiment with emerging cloud, AI/ML, and edge computing technologies
- Participate in after-hours work and on-call rotation as required
Requirements
- Possesses a university degree and/or 5+ years relevant work experience
- 1–2 years of hands-on Cloud Computing experience in enterprise environments
- Experience executing and optimizing processes following CMMI, ITIL, or Six Sigma
- Experience implementing processes to meet organizational needs at an enterprise level
- Knowledge of multiple major cloud hyperscalers such as AWS, GCP, Azure, and AliCloud
- Understanding of IaaS and enterprise-grade tooling such as Terraform, CloudFormation, resource manager, and deployment manager
- Programming and scripting proficiency in multiple languages such as Java, JavaScript, YAML, Python, or .Net
- Knowledge of containerization and orchestration tools including Docker, Kubernetes, Amazon EKS, and OpenShift, with experience in large-scale implementations
- Ability to participate in after-hours work and on-call rotation as required
- Reliability Status Clearance required, including law enforcement inquiry and credit check
- Must account for activities if lived or travelled outside Canada for six consecutive months during the last five years
