About the role
- Principal AI Engineer building AWS-based GenAI and AI/ML solutions for Sun Life’s insurance and financial-services contact centers. Driving architecture, DevOps, deployment, and engineering standards.
Responsibilities
- Partner with and guide the Enterprise Architect on platform-capability roadmap solutions
- Define and communicate the technical vision and strategy for AI/ML initiatives
- Establish technical excellence, innovation, and squad standards
- Mentor and develop the engineering squad
- Design, deploy, and manage API infrastructure on AWS
- Create and maintain technical design artifacts covering functionality, solution designs, data models, interfaces, and integrations
- Enhance DevOps practices and tools to enforce software guardrails and automation
- Collaborate across teams to integrate AI/ML solutions with broader platform initiatives
- Own and evolve deployment strategy and CI/CD practices
- Manage model component versioning across development and production environments
- Support infrastructure automation and infrastructure-as-code practices
- Evaluate and recommend emerging technologies and industry practices
- Provide post-production support, troubleshooting, performance optimization, and continuous improvement
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a relevant field
- At least 10 years of engineering experience
- Extensive experience designing and deploying AI/ML architectures with GenAI models, agentic systems, RAG techniques, and production-scale patterns
- Exceptional communication and presentation skills, with ability to influence technical and executive stakeholders
- Thought leadership in AI/ML
- Deep architectural expertise across Python, Java, and AWS services
- Advanced expertise in AI/ML architecture patterns, model lifecycle management, and production-scale deployment strategies
- Strong expertise in AWS services and cloud infrastructure
- Advanced proficiency with DevOps practices, deployment automation, CI/CD pipelines, containerization, and orchestration technologies at scale
- Ability to establish technical standards for AI/ML infrastructure, security, and operational excellence
- Proficiency in API development and management
- Leadership skills to guide agile teams across multiple locations
- Problem-solving and analytical skills
- Success coaching and mentoring junior engineers in an Agile team setting
