About the role

Mainframe Quality Engineer leading regression, integration, and automation testing for Sun Life’s financial services and insurance applications. Coordinating QE teams, test environments, data, and production readiness.

Responsibilities

Coordinate and ensure release regression, end-to-end, and non-functional testing before production implementation
Identify and raise gaps, risks, and issues related to execution plans
Develop detailed mainframe test cases with internal teams to validate business application logic and identify software defects
Define and document complex data and test environment requirements and test data entry/exit criteria with Architects, Business, and IT
Ensure appropriate test environments and test data
Support testing activities across cross-functional Agile teams
Communicate quality, progress, project issues, and concerns to QE management
Remove testing-related roadblocks and escalate when necessary
Summarize test results and manage testing impact with key stakeholders
Assist stakeholders in prioritizing testing efforts
Ensure appropriate QE processes, tools, and techniques are used
Establish automation and regression testing approaches for efficiency and reusability
Advocate change and continuously improve testing practices

Minimum 5+ years of relevant work experience leading large/complex multi-discipline initiatives
Related University Degree or College Diploma and evidence of progressive development in Quality Engineering
Knowledge of functional, non-functional, regression, integration, and end-to-end testing of Mainframe applications
Knowledge of JCL, CICS, batch job testing, and DB2 commands
Solid experience in QE best practices, tools, and testing of back-end and front-end applications
Ability to lead, develop and support QE members working in agile teams
Exceptional organizational, planning and leadership skills
Sound problem-solving skills and ability to process and clearly present complex information
Strong commitment and ownership for QE deliverables
Strong vendor management experience
Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills
Experience in test automation frameworks and tools such as Tosca and ReadyAPI
Understanding of Agile methodologies, DevOps, Jira, and Confluence
Experience in qTest or equivalent Test Management tools
Experience mentoring teammates
Demonstrated leadership implementing QE practices
Openness to learning new ideas outside current skillset
Ability to work independently with little or no supervision
Innovative mindset and positive outlook
Knowledge of financial services and insurance industry
CSTE certification or equivalent is an asset
